Parksmart Advisors guide their clients to achieve their sustainability goals.

Offered by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Institute (GBCI) alongside the suite of LEED rating systems, Parksmart is the only rating system dedicated to improving the quality and performance of parking structures.  As a unique building type, these structures offer unique opportunities to drive greater sustainability practices and outcomes at the intersection of parking, transportation, and mobility.

Parksmart Advisors lead clients through the certification process by evaluating parking facilities’ sustainable attributes and preparing their applications for certification submission. Parksmart Advisors are well-versed in implementing strategies designed to reduce the energy and environmental footprint of parking facilities.

To earn a Parksmart Advisor certificate, candidates complete the Parksmart Advisor training course and pass an assessment. The training offers a deep-dive into the specific management, programmatic, technological, and structural elements of certification, and it is offered by the International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI) in partnership with GBCI.

Offers 9 Certification Points and 9 GBCI CE Credits.

IPMI is the exclusive USGBC Education Partner, and the only provider of the education required to earn this valuable certificate

Why Become a Parksmart Advisor?

Becoming a Parksmart Advisor positions you as a recognized expert in sustainable parking facility design, operation, and certification. Backed by GBCI (the same body that administers LEED) and IPMI, it is the only credible sustainability designation in the parking and mobility industry.

  1. Gain recognized expertise in sustainable parking design and operations. Parksmart is the world’s only certification system dedicated to advancing sustainable mobility through smarter parking structure design and operation. Becoming an Advisor means you’re trained to evaluate facilities across 50 sustainability elements, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, alternative transportation programs, and community engagement.
  1. Lead clients or your organization through Parksmart certification. Parksmart Advisors guide parking owners and operators through the full certification process: evaluating facilities, preparing documentation, and implementing strategies that reduce environmental impact.
  1. Participate in specialized training developed and approved by IPMI and GBCI. The credential requires completing a collaborative and interactive training course over four sessions, covering management, technological, programmatic, and structural elements of parking facilities.
  1. Align with the industry’s sustainability leaders. IPMI is the official education partner of USGBC and GBCI, the organizations behind LEED, and the only provider of Parksmart Advisor training. This partnership strengthens the credibility of the Parksmart Advisor credential and connects you to the broader green building ecosystem as well as an amazing community of sustainability professionals.
  1. Help organizations reduce costs and improve performance. These outcomes make Advisors valuable to cities, campuses, airports, and private operators:
    • Integration with sustainable mobility options
    • Lower long-term operational costs
    • Higher energy efficiency
    • Improved lighting and ventilation
    • Enhanced patron experience
  1. Contribute to decarbonizing transportation. Transportation accounts for 28% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, and modernizing parking infrastructure is a key part of reducing that footprint. Advisors help organizations adopt practices that support sustainable mobility and reduce resource consumption.
  1. Join a growing field with increasing demand. More than 200 projects have registered for Parksmart and over 75 facilities have been certified—numbers that continue to grow as cities and organizations prioritize sustainability. This creates ongoing demand for qualified Advisors.
